If you need
more reasons to join us, consider how the LCC MA TESOL Program stands out among
other programs for its flexibility, affordability, and quality. In terms of flexibility,
students can begin in spring or summer, and you can join as fulltime or
parttime students. We offer nine fully online courses and four courses that begin
with in-person meetings in our two summer residencies in Terms 1 & 4. The
hybrid / blended format, combined with our cohort model in which fulltime students
start and finish the program together, allows for the formation of deep
relationships and meaningful interactions. Additionally, the program is affordable,
especially when compared with similar programs offered in the US, which are
more than three times the cost in terms of tuition. Total tuition for those
starting in 2026 is just 6,000 Euros, which stays the same until you graduate.
Despite the low cost, the quality of the LCC MA TESOL
program is quite high, with six professors with doctorates who have decades of
international teaching experience, multiple publications, and who bring not
only their expertise, but also their concern and compassion for you, the
students, modeling our mission statement.
Pictured here are the current six faculty members, Dr. Daivd
Broersma, Dr. Betty Lanteigne, Dr. Mary Wong, Dr. Geraldine Ryan, Dr. Doreen
Ewert, and Dr. Michael Westwood. We, along
with Dr. Robin Gingerich, look forward to teaching and guiding you through the
program and advising you on your research and Thesis.
Other updates, which are reflected
in the schedule on the next page, include four new courses to better
meet your needs based on student feedback. We added a new elective, 640
“Methods 2” offered Term 5 in Spring 2. We divided the Practicum course in two
smaller parts. The first half, ENG 581 Observation Practicum (3 ECTS),
is offered Spring 1, and the second half, ENG 582 Teaching Practicum (3
ECTS), is offered Summer 2. Students complete 10 hours of observations in
ENG581 early in the year and then have several months to complete the10 hours
of teaching from Spring 1 thorough Summer 2, when ENG 582 is completed. This
provides students more time and flexibility to complete the 6 ECTS required for
the practicum. Finally, a new course is offered staring with Cohort’26. ENG 581
Ethnography and Intercultural Communication (ICC) replaces ENG 580 Action
Research Practicum, allowing students to hone their research skills by
completing an ethnography and gain insights into ways to teach about culture
and ICC.
New and current students will want
to know about the following changes planned for the summer residency
sessions. The summer sessions will meet each day for four hours per day,
rather than just three hours, making the most of our time together. Also,
starting with cohort 2026, students will present at a mini conference
(for each other) during the summer of 2027 based on what has been learned
in the program. This provides some needed professional practice for the Thesis
defense the final term. Also note that the final term, the thesis defense
may be completed online instead of in-person if students prefer. This helps
reduce the cost of the overall program for students who must travel from far
away just for one hour of defense the final (3rd) summer. We will
continue to hold the small graduation ceremony for those who are in Klaipeda
the final summer in person. Also starting with cohort 2026, a professional
conference requirement will be needed to graduate. Details will be coming,
but we will allow for a one-day online conference although we prefer students
to attend an in-person conference. This will require an extra expense for
membership and conference registration, so students will need to plan for that.
Be sure to ask for the much-reduced rates for graduate students. We’ll provide
a list of suggested conferences of the affiliates of IATEFL and TESOL
International.
To conclude, let me add that a few
things may have changed in this program, but what has not changed is our
commitment to you and to God. I’m honored to be your director and look forward
to supporting you through your journey of becoming compassionate educators,
competent researchers, and ethical leaders in TESOL!
